Windows 10 (1803) Quick Tip: Fix Blue Screens with Intel HD Graphics 620

I just got a new XPS 13 (9370) laptop and installed the new version of Windows 10 (1803) only to find it threw frequent blue screen errors.  I updated all the drivers and the firmware but nothing seemed to help.

The Dell Support Assist tool had a history of each BSOD which provided the following details:

Bug check code: 0x0000000a

Bug check parameters: 0xffffb15880000000, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000, 0xfffff8005a680ad0

Device name: Microsoft Storage Port Driver

Driver version: 10.0.17134.1 (WinBuild.160101.0800)

Driver path: C:\Windows\System32\drivers\storport.sys

Dell support wasn’t any help and only suggested I roll back to a previous version of Windows.

I finally contacted Microsoft support and they were able to fix it in 15 minutes by rolling back the graphics driver from 23.20.16.4973 to 23.20.16.50.18.

  1. I also started running into issues with a few of the newer laptops and pinpointed it to the display. As usual always a fun time. But looks like Dell has finally added an update for the 620 driver has of yesterday.

    Fixes & Enhancements
    Fixes
    – System might hang with black screen when idle with screen turn off
    – System might see Blue Screen with error code: WHEA or 0x124

  2. I had same problem, rolled back UHD 620 driver from 6286 to the 5018 driver mentioned, and it fixed my problem. Interesting, I downloaded it from dell website and, even though they also offer the 6286 version on their site, they still offer the 5018 version. The site says the 5018 was last updated on Feb. 21, 2019, so looks like they are continuing to keep it available and updated even though they also offer the newer version. bet they know they have a problem.
